Tomos Gwyn - Music Director

In July 2019, Tomos Gwyn graduated with Merit in MMus Choral Conducting from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. 

He has enjoyed working with critically acclaimed tutors Sarah Tenant-Flowers and Adrian Partington, and has been taught by conductors such as Simon Halsey, Neil Ferris and Justin Doyle. He has studied singing with Jeff Stewart and Kathryn Harries to improve his knowledge of the voice and help him with encouraging healthy singing in choirs. He enjoyed projects such as chorus mastering two operas and conducting the RWCMD Chamber Choir as part of the college.

In addition to conducting, Tomos worked as the interim Chorus Administrator of the BBC National Chorus of Wales October to December in 2019, helping with organising high-profile concerts and leading workshops with seven primary schools in preparation for the BBC Carols for Christmas concert. He also works professionally as a freelance singer, performing with Llandaff Cathedral, Cardiff University Catholic Chaplaincy and BBC National Chorus of Wales. Most recently, he appeared on BBC Four performing at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall singing Mozart's Requiem from memory with the latter choir. 

Tomos studied music at the University of Manchester for his undergraduate degree and received a BMus second class honours upper division. During this time, he conducted a handful of choirs such as the University Chorus, Ad Solem and the Cosmo Singers. He was also the Director of Music at the Church of Holy Name for his final year at Manchester. He studied piano in his first and second year of University under Tom Scott and choral conducting with Robert Guy in his final year, conducting Duruflé’s Requiem for his final recital.

He became the Music Director of Risca Male Choir in June 2018 and in June 2019 he was appointed as the Musical Director of Caerphilly Community Chorus.
