Interested in joining Risca Male Choir?

We welcome visitors to our practice nights which are held on Sundays from 6pm to 8pm, and on Thursdays from 7pm to 9 pm. You might just come along and listen, you might just want a look behind the scenes or you might be interested in joining our number. Either way you’re sure of a warm welcome. We can always accommodate 3 or 4 visitors without prior notice, but if you’d like to bring a larger group we can do that as well, but appreciate knowing in advance so that we can ensure that we’re ready for you.

We also hold “open practices” where we particularly want to meet gentlemen who have an interest in singing. They might have been members of a choir previously or they may have no choral experience at all. It really doesn’t matter because we will “buddy” you with an experienced chorister to mentor and guide you in the beginning.

You might wonder why we hold “open practices“ if we welcome visitors at any time. Well, if you have ever belonged to an association of any type, then you’ll know that the hardest part is crossing the threshold for the first time. If you come to an “open practice” we know that you have at least a small interest in joining, but we will not put pressure on you to join.  You might choose to just listen, or (what most gents do) is listen to the first half of a practice then “sit in” for the second half.

Where will your voice fit in the choir? Our music director will listen to you sing (don’t worry it isn’t an audition!) and put you with the correct section. When is the next “open practice”? We advertise dates of our open practices here on our website and also on the choir Facebook page, but you don’t have to wait for one!

The time commitment is for 2 practices a week, plus our concert diary. We are a busy choir and will typically have about 20 events of varying size throughout the year. We know that few people can make 100% attendance, but we ask that you come into it with open eyes, and commit as much time as is needed and possible. It’s very much a team effort and teams need all of their members. The team spirit and friendship is real. Beware if the bug bites you… it’s a great hobby that might just be what you are looking for.
